It’s hard to think of a more soul-recharging getaway than a late September, October or even a November sojourn to destinations dotted with trees turning blazing shades of red, orange and gold. “Leaf peeping,” or Fall Color Tourism, is such a popular travel trend that there are several interactive maps that provide daily updates so you can find the best locations to view spectacular, vibrant colors as you walk down a wooded trail or take a relaxing drive through a scenic region on a crisp, fall day.

Less Well-Known Fall Foliage Destinations Could be Perfect for You
New England is often regarded as the go-to region for fall foliage, and there’s no denying it’s spectacular there in autumn. But you may want to think about other destinations that are just as impressive and could be less crowded. Here are some fall vacation destination ideas:
New York’s Adirondack Park – the ‘We Have It All’ Fall Vacation
Located in northeastern New York, the Adirondack Mountains, boasting Lake Placid and Lake George, blend high peaks and winding byways framed by brilliant reds and gold fall foliage. Enjoy panoramic overlooks from the Prospect Mountain Veterans Memorial Highway, a 5.5-mile scenic drive in Lake George that leads to the summit of Prospect Mountain. This memorable drive offers three scenic overlooks and stunning 100-mile views from the summit. Or take in the breathtaking fall colors while sailing, rowing, kayaking or boating on Mirror Lake, in the center of the town of Lake Placid. Known for hosting two winter Olympics, the quaint town also includes boutiques, diverse restaurants and several breweries.
The fall is also jam-packed with fun events. The Adirondack Balloon Festival in Queensbury and Glens Falls takes place this year Sept. 18-21, 2025. It features sunrise and sunset launches and special-shape balloons such as a baby peacock, a baby dinosaur with an egg, Taz the Tasmanian Devil, and penguins.
Later in the season, the Flaming Leaves Festival at Lake Placid, takes place Oct 11–12. This high-energy event showcases live music, local vendors, and the U.S. Ski Jumping/Nordic Combined Nationals beneath flaming-color hillsides.
Our LiTRV concierge specialist can check availability at nearby luxury RV resorts, such as the Lake George RV Park in Lake George. Amenities include indoor and outdoor pools, paved full-hookup sites, on-property trails, a trolley, movie theaters, and Charlie’s Bark Park, a two-acre off-leash dog park. Our concierge specialist can also check availability at nearby luxury resorts, such as the Lake Placid Lodge. LiTRV’s private driver can drop you off there and then pick you up when you are ready to continue on your journey.
Northern Michigan’s Gold Coast – An Explosion of Color at Peak Season
Maple trees abound as you drive past Lake Michigan vistas and across quaint towns. The famed Tunnel of Trees, a scenic 20-mile stretch of M-119 between Harbor Springs and Cross Village, is known for the dense canopy of trees that forms a tunnel-like effect over the road. As fall foliage peaks in mid-October, the Tunnel becomes a natural cathedral of color—perfect for a slow, scenic drive in your luxury motorcoach rental.
The Leelanau Peninsula is another popular area for “leaf peeping.” The scenic area in northwest Michigan extends into Lake Michigan and forms the west side of Grand Traverse Bay. It is known for its natural beauty, including Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, 100 miles of shoreline, and numerous inland lakes and islands. The peninsula also boasts a thriving wine industry, with the Leelanau Peninsula Wine Trail featuring over 20 award-winning wineries.
Or, consider taking a ferry to Mackinac Island from Mackinaw City, at the northern tip of Michigan’s Lower Peninsula, or catch the ferry from St. Ignace, at the southern tip of the Upper Peninsula. The car-free island offers timeless charm with horse-drawn carriages, quaint boutiques, a tearoom, two butterfly houses, horseback riding, golf, fine dining and luxury spas. Our LiTRV private driver can drop you off at the ferry location and pick you up when you are ready to embark on the rest of your journey.
And throughout the fall, you’ll find many other fun fall activities, such as apple picking, pumpkin patches, and fall harvest at local farms. There are also many fall festivals, such as the Charlevoix Apple Festival, Oct 10–12, which includes delicious cider, orchards, arts and crafts, and downtown festivities by the marina.
Our LiTRV concierge specialist can check availability at nearby luxury RV resorts, such as Hearthside Grove in Petoskey. As a top-of-the-line luxury RV resort, Hearthside Grove features two clubhouses with concierge services, a resort-style pool, pickleball courts, outdoor games, a dog walk, two fitness centers, a movie theater and other desirable amenities. All of the luxury motorcoach lots are spacious, but our LiTRV concierge specialist can check availability for premium lots, which have some combination of at least three enhanced amenities, such as a view of one of the beautiful ponds, fire features, water features or enhanced furniture.
The Ozarks – Ablaze with Color
It’s tough to beat rolling hills ablaze with amber and crimson surrounding crystal blue water. As one of the oldest mountain regions in North America, the Ozarks are characterized by rolling hills, plateaus, and rugged terrain, formed over millions of years by the erosion of an ancient plateau. Primarily located in southern Missouri and northern Arkansas, they also extend into eastern Oklahoma and southeastern Kansas. The Ozarks are also known for their extensive cave systems, clear rivers and streams, and diverse plant and animal life.
One popular destination to see the fall foliage is Branson, Missouri. Nestled in the Ozark Mountains, Branson is known as the “Live Entertainment Capital of the World.” Each autumn, there are plenty of fall festivals, arts and crafts shows, traditional pumpkin patches, corn mazes, carnivals, concerts, bonfires, and other fun family activities. Enjoy a scenic cruise or a fishing charter on Table Rock Lake. Hike in leaf-framed Dogwood Canyon Nature Park or take in a show in Branson’s Entertainment District. Early October is when the beautiful colors are at their peak.
Time your vacation so you can attend the Silver Dollar City Harvest Festival, in the Silver Dollar City theme park less than 10 miles from Branson, From Sept. 12 to Oct 26, you can enjoy the artistic works of craftsmen, fall-themed food, a cowboy camp, a cowboy emporium and thousands of pumpkins across the park.
Our LiTRV concierge specialist can check availability at several nearby luxury RV resorts, such as Ozarks Luxury RV Resort on Table Rock Lake in Oak Grove, Arkansas, just 30 minutes from Branson. Amenities include several pools, hot tubs, lighted tennis and pickleball courts, disc golf, and access to a nearby full-service marina.
