America loves motorsports. Whether its sports car racing through IMSA, (International Motor Sports Association), stock car racing through NASCAR, (National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing), or open-wheel racing through F1, (Formula 1), people are fascinated by the incredible skill, precision, and control drivers exhibit while handling powerful machines at extreme speeds.
In fact, since the pandemic, attendance is skyrocketing at many races throughout the country. According to IMSA president John Doonan, three of the first four IMSA events in the 2025 season set all-time attendance records. Recent data shows Formula 1 has an estimated 45 million fans in the United States and is growing, while NASCAR’s total viewership reached 68.4 million for its last season, with millions more tuning in for individual events. Globally, the sport of motorsports is estimated to attract about 500 million people annually.
But beyond each iconic racetrack, there are vibrant communities and scenic regions to explore. Whether you want to attend a popular race or just want to explore the region, consider chartering a luxury motorcoach with a private driver for a memorable, customized, unique vacation experience.

Here are five legendary racetrack destinations to consider visiting:
Watkins Glen International Raceway – Watkins Glen, NY
The Watkins Glen racetrack, officially Watkins Glen International (WGI), is a premier road course in upstate New York that hosts various auto racing events, including the NASCAR Cup Series Go Bowling at The Glen and the IndyCar Series Grand Prix. Located in Dix, New York, near the southern tip of Seneca Lake, it features a 3.45-mile course and has a long history dating back to a village-street race in 1948 before the current permanent track was built in 1956.
Known as “The Glen,” this legendary track is nestled in New York’s Finger Lakes region, a haven for wine lovers and outdoor adventurers. While visiting the area, explore the nearby Seneca Lake Wine Trail, which features dozens of wineries. The trail is surrounded by a wide range of activities including breweries, distilleries, creameries, watersports, museums, history, shopping, and more.
It’s definitely worth your time to stay in the area a few extra days to explore
Watkins Glen State Park. Within two miles of entering the park, the glen’s stream descends 400 feet past 200-foot cliffs, generating 19 waterfalls along its course. The gorge path winds over and under waterfalls and through the spray of Cavern Cascade. Rim trails overlook the gorge.
Be sure to leave time to visit the Corning Museum of Glass, the world’s foremost library on glass and glassmaking. The museum features glass as a focal point to share stories relating to art, history, culture, technology, science, craft, and design. 50,000+ objects representing more than 3,500 years of history are included in the museum’s collection.

Virginia International Raceway – Danville, VA
The Virginia International Raceway (VIR) is a multi-purpose motorsports resort located in the rolling hills of Alton, Virginia, near Danville. It is considered one of America’s premier permanent road racing facilities, featuring a challenging track with significant elevation changes and resort amenities.
The track first opened in 1957 and quickly became a major fixture for the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA), drawing famous drivers like Carroll Shelby, who won the inaugural feature race. The circuit closed in 1974, and the land was used as a farm for 25 years. The track reopened in 2000 under new ownership and VIR was redeveloped as one of the country’s first “motorsport resorts,” combining a world-class racetrack with lodging, dining, and other amenities.
When not at the track, you may want to spend a few days hiking, picnicking, or driving through the Blue Ridge Parkway, a scenic 469-mile drive connecting Shenandoah National Park in Virginia and Great Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina. The parkway is known for its stunning views of the Appalachian Mountains, abundant wildlife, and diverse flora.
The region also includes Jibtopia Wake Park for water sports, The Prizery for performances, and Hudson Heritage Farms for agricultural experiences. The South Boston – Halifax County Museum is also worth visiting and is about 30 minutes from the racetrack. As you plan your trip, you might also include time visiting nearby Charlotte and Raleigh/Durham, North Carolina.
For the ultimate trip, consider attending a race and staying at one of the premium motorcoach sites on Virginia International Raceway’s property. Some of these sites have trackside options for the best views, but they do book up quickly. Our LiTRV concierge specialist can check availability for a premium site with VIP benefits or check availability at The Villas at South Bend, a lodge that is also on the property. Overlooking the uphill Esses, one of the most celebrated features of VIR’s racecourse, the two-floor accommodations each offer 2,200 spacious square feet of total space, which can be rented as a single unit or as separate ground floor and second-floor units.
If you’re interested in exploring more of Virginia’s beauty, LiTRV concierge specialist can explore luxury RV resorts throughout the state, such as The Oaks RV Resort in Meadows of Dan, a two-hour drive from the racetrack. This new, upscale luxury RV resort includes spacious sites with lush landscaping and long-range mountain views, a heated outdoor swimming pool, a clubhouse with a fireplace, a large pet park, free high-speed internet, walking and hiking trails, fire pits and picnic tables, security cameras and other amenities.
